- The Language Tutor
-
- The computer literally speaks to you in the native tongue
-
- This product is SHAREWARE.
-
- The sound samples and the program are copyright of © Bits 'n' Bytes 1993
-
- The Interface module is copyright of Simon Huntingdon.
-
- The SampPlayer module is the work of David Radford. Special thanks to him
- for his permission to let the module stand alone.
-
- Anyone interested in contacting any of these lads, write to:

-
- If you need help with this, phone, even unregistered users will
- recieve a warm welcome.
-
- Only registered users may 'part out' the program for their private use.
-
- You are allowed to examine the program and to pass it on to friends,
- people, and BBS's, without fear of legal repercussions. If you do
- pass it around remember this is shareware and encourage your friends
- to remember there is a £5 fee for registration. Shareware is a means
- for software firms to distribute their software with no cost at all and
- the result is that there are no advertising costs to pass on to you the
- consumer, hence the stuff is cheaper. Sadly the system is abused and
- people rarely pay for the goods, forcing the prices up.
-
- PD Libraries are allowed to pass it on but if it is good enough to
- list they should purchase one copy if they exceed £15 profit from it.
-
- This product costs only £5.00 to register. The cheapness
- of the product shouldn't mean that it was written in a weekend.
-
- I figure that with the amount of software piracy, why penalise the honest
- Joe. Make the price small enough that unrich interested individuals can
- afford it.
-
- !Player in which the SampPlayer Module is a player which plays compressed
- Amadeus Sound Samples. !Compress compresses them to 50% of their original
- size whereas, !Spark would only give you a 10% savings. !Compress also
- uncompresses samples. The SampPlayer module IS NOT PD and must not be seperated
- from !Player or any of the !SayIt series. David Radford has been kind
- enough to give special permission to us for this purpose, for which
- we are forever in his debt.
-
- !Player and !Compress are in the Public Domain, but are copyright
- of David Radford. Send me a disc and a stamp and Bits 'n' Bytes will
- send you these progams on disc free of charge.
-
- If you don't have a hard disc or you intend to use this
- across econet if you create a RAM disc of 800K and
- copy the program in it. You will find that you have as
- close to true human speech as a computer can deliver.
-
- This program pushes the now possible limits of the machine
- both with memory, disc space, and disc access.
-
- There are other products available from us:
-
- Other languages Chinese, Spanish, Norwegian, German, Finnish....etc
- call and see.
-
- The computer is say a word. You will have an indefinite period to choose
- of a four choices.
-
- If you are right the computer will move on to another word, and praise you
- with a random response, and then move on to the next word.
-
- If you are wrong it will tell you you are wrong with a random phrase, and NOT
- move on to the next word.
-
- There are two extra buttons on the screen one is will start a new session.
-
- The other will repeat the word so you can either get a better feel for the word
- or remind you if you have forgotten it.
-
- Above these two buttons is another smaller button which will make the foreign
- word dissapear so that you can not have any clues to the meaning of the word other
- than the sound.
-
- The scoreboard reads correct, wrong, attempts, and percentage. You should acheive
- above 70% at all times. In the USA this is considered a 'C' (average) and 69%
- would be considered a 'C-' (below average).
-
- The entire screen is in your language to give you a feel for working in that
- language. The top of the screen reads "What is the ____________ (<--Language)
- translation for:"
-
- The iconbar menu is straight forward except for the middle choice when, if ticked,
- whill direct all of !SayIt's sound to the headphone socket only for classroom or
- late night study.
-
- If you can't get it to work then call me at 0752-667599 and I will try to help.
-
- You are advised that because all version of !SayIt set a system variable called
- SayItQuiz$Dir, you MUST NOT run say the french and german together! This may
- crash your entire desktop. I will fix this in the near furture, but I haven't
- seen it as that big of a problem yet.
-
- I have purchased talk tapes in the past where you think the person speaking sure has
- and english accent.
-
- I assure you that all speakers to !SayIt are native to that language, and that
- the language they speak is their mother tongue. I have been assured that
- they have no speech impediments and speak a 'main stream' dialect of that
- language (ie for english you will not have someone with a southern USA drawl).
